Color Mixing: Make Your Own Hues

Green: yellow + blue
Red: beet red + pinch of yellow
Orange: yellow + pinch of beet red

Makes pastels to deep, rich colors

Directions

Cookie Icing Recipe

Enough for 1 Dozen Cookies

3 cups powdered sugar

¼ tsp vanilla extract

4 Tbsp milk (add more milk as desired)

1 color packet

Mix ingredients together until smooth
Take ¼ cup mixed icing and place in small bowl
Add ½ – 1 packet of color
Blend until all the color has dissolved
Drizzle on cookies, or use icing bottle

Frosting Recipe

Makes 1 Cup

4 Tbsp unsalted butter (room temp)

2 cups powdered sugar

2 Tbsp milk

½ tsp vanilla extract

1 part glycerin to 1 part color

In a small bowl, beat butter, sugar, milk and vanilla until light and fluffy
Mix 1 part color (¼ – 1 color packet) to equal part glycerin*
Gently blend liquid color into frosting

*oil-based recipes require pre-mixing colors with glycerin

Coloring produces best results with icing and glazes. Baking at high temperatures may result in some color variation. Oil-based recipes (such as frosting) require pre-mixing colors with glycerin.
