Matcha is the ceremonial Japanese green tea made from lush, shade-grown tea leaves called tencha that are ground to a fine powder using stone mills. This supercharged tea has long been enjoyed for its uplifting natural energy. Zen monks use matcha for wakefulness, endurance and enhanced focus during meditation. It is the essential energy drink with contemporary culinary distinction and ancient heritage.
Matcha is prepared by whisking the powder in hot water to create a vivid green tea with a deliciously smooth, creamy flavor and frothy, espresso-like mouthfeel.
Sift: Sift 1 tsp (2 g) matcha into a bowl.
Water: Add 2.5 oz (70 ml) of hot water, about 160°F.
Whisk: Whisk with a bamboo chasen 15 seconds until rich and foamy.
